Overview:

Although many people try to avoid it, even fear it, change is inevitable.

The need to manage transformation occurs all the time, by everyone, and in different ways, and it doesn't have to be a bad thing. This discussion explores changes primarily affecting the workplace. In the business world, stagnation can be lethal. If your organization is not moving forward, it is likely moving backwards and will be left in the dust. Resiliency to change begins with understanding the different types of changes, the reasons for change, the natural human reactions to change, and most importantly, why and how we can adapt to and even inspire change.

The first section explores change dynamics including the 5 W's +H of it all. Some of these include internal factors while others are driven by external matters. The next section answers the question of how do we handle rapid fire changes without becoming burnt out, disengaged, and experiencing loss of focus? We will review how we respond to shifting directions, including examining the natural responses of the stages of change based on scientific research of psychological reactions. Although we all can relate to these general phases, each of us is unique in how we think, feel, and respond so it is also important to recognize how our personalities play a role. Drawing from almost 100 years of scientific research on DISCĀ® personalities, we will look at personality correlations as well.

The following section focuses on determining how to better adapt to change for resiliency, reset, and refocus, realizing that the human mindset matters. It is vital to individual and corporate success to recognize and support individuality as well as leading by example. To ensure that all employees are supportive of embracing the changes that come along with progressive movement, management must be the leader with this reflected attitude, and through the demonstration of "PEKs". The final section offers tools to assist individuals to rise to the challenge of championing necessary changes in timely, efficient, and effective ways for successful results.
